Soundtrack

My plan at the moment if I have time is to try and score the whole soundtrack to my documentary myself, but if I run out of time I will just use existing music. After watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi I was really inspired by Gelbs use of classical music, concentrating mainly on the string sections. For Jiro Dreams of Sushi he uses Vivaldi's Four Seasons and 12 Violin Concertos, as well as relying heavily on Bach's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello.

Although I think it fits really well with the subject matter, I think the strings bring a very grand feel to the film and give a sense of importance that wouldn't work with anything other than a Michelin Star subject. For my documentary I want to try and match the more down to earth nature of the kitchen I'm filming, which I will do using mainly solo piano. I think this will give a nice atmosphere without overblowing the context and importance of the subject matter. Two good examples of the vibe I want to go for are Philip Glass and Nils Frahm.

A classic piece that I would really like to try and capture some of the feel of is Terry Riley's 'In C', as it flows very nicely and would dip in and out very well.
